Oral cancer is not a rare disease and it is on the rise. In fact, one American dies every hour from oral cancer. Often found in its advanced stages, oral cancer can dramatically diminish length of life. Early discovery is critical for survival. The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends an annual oral cancer screening for people 17 years and older. Oral cancer can affect any area of the oral cavity including mouth, throat, lips, and tongue. Studies have shown that early detection of oral cancer with technologies like the OralID™ dramatically improves the survivability of the disease.
Over an 8-year period, the number of oral cancers has increased while other cancers have declined.
49,670 people in the U.S. will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer this year
70% of oral cancers are found in late stages (stages III and IV)
9,700 deaths this year will be due to late diagnosis of oral cancer
Oral cancer is a disease that can affect nearly anyone 17 years and older. Risk factors include:
HPV, transmitted primarily through sexual contact, is the cause of the fastest growing oral cancer population under the age of 45 and is responsible for a 15-times increase in oral cancer diagnosis.
OralID™ is a simple, 2-minute examination that assists your doctor in the visualization of oral abnormalities not visible under traditional white lights or to the naked eye. During your screening, we will use a small, handheld light to inspect your mouth, gums, tongue, and throat. The exam is completely non-invasive and painless. OralID has the ability to “highlight” these abnormalities in much earlier stages, before it is actually visible to your dental professional, in turn increasing the 5-year survival rate up to 80-90%.
Schedule the OralID™ screening along with your regular dental checkup. We are committed to providing the best oral care to our patients, with a highly trained staff, exceptional customer service, and state-of-the art dental technology. We love to see you smile.
