08 Sep Keeping Patients Safe with the ULV Fogger
Think of something really small like an ant. Now think of something even smaller like a spec of dirt. Take that spec of dirt and divide it in half, and then divide it in half again. Now, think smaller.
There are many things in the universe that are so small we cannot see it, smell it, or taste it. The word ‘micron’ is a measurement used to describe particles too small to see with the human eye. So small, a micron is just 0.000039 of an inch in size. Bacteria, mold spores, and viruses are 0.3 to 5 microns in size. These harmful bacteria can hide in tiny cracks and crevices without being noticed. How do you clean something you cannot see? The ULV Fogger Disinfectant is a tool with the ability to penetrate into those unseen places, seeking out bacteria, mold spores, viruses, and other germs, killing them with 99% effectiveness.
What is a ULV Fogger
Ultra-Low Volume or ULV is a fine cold mist fogging machine that produces micro-droplets of disinfectant that float in the air for around 10 minutes after application. In addition to cleaning large areas including waiting rooms and dental offices, the atomization of the disinfecting mist is able to penetrate hidden crevices that conventional cleaning may miss. The ULV fogging mist has a particle size of 0.5 – 1 micron, capable of killing bacteria on the spot.
Safe on Eyes and Skin
The product used in a ULV Fogger is called Hypochlorous Acid or HOCI. It is a powerful antioxidant and disinfectant. HOCI is a naturally occurring chemical produced by our white blood cells, to fight bacteria and inflammation after an infection or trauma occurs. It is one of the only agents that are both nontoxic to the delicate cells that can heal our wounds, while simultaneously killing airborne bacteria, viruses, and fungi that may threaten our health. HOCI is a non-irritant to most individuals including those with allergies. It can be used continuously throughout the workday, including in the presence of people and dental surfaces. In addition to other disinfecting protocols, we make sure to fog at least twice per day.
Our Commitment to You
The health of our mouth contributes to the health of our whole body. The simple act of brushing twice per day for two minutes each time removes harmful plaque that can lead to cavities and gum disease. It is important now more than ever to maintain a good dental routine. If you have been ill or are recovering from illness, remember to replace your toothbrush with a new one.
The ULV fogger is just one more step Imperial Dental Center has taken to ensure the health and safety of our staff and patients. At Imperial Dental Center our patients are our family and that is why we will continue to implement new disinfecting procedures that surpass even the most stringent recommendations issued by the CDC and ADA.
